General knowledge quiz

15 questions with four answers each, on geography, history, science, language and numbers. No clock and no account.

This general knowledge quiz asks 15 multiple-choice questions on geography, history, science, language and numbers. After each answer you see the right answer with a source, and at the end your score and the questions you missed.

How the quiz works

You choose between the daily quiz and a single round. Each question has four answers and there is no clock, so you can take your time. Once you pick an answer, you see whether it is right, what the right answer is and which page it comes from. At the end, the questions you missed are listed together.

A round always has three questions per topic. That way no round is half dates, and two rounds stay comparable. If you play several single rounds in a row, the quiz moves through the set: the first six rounds add up to 90 different questions.

The five topics

Geography covers capitals, rivers and mountains, such as the capital of Australia. History asks about years and people, like the first president of the United States. Science is about planets, chemical symbols and animals. Language looks at scripts, the origin of words like sauna and writers like Cervantes. Numbers is about fixed figures: the squares on a chessboard, or how many kilometres a marathon is.

There are no questions on health or money, on purpose. Facts that change quickly, such as population counts, are also left out. An answer should still hold next year.

The same questions for everyone, every day

The daily quiz takes its questions from today's date, with no account involved: everyone who plays today gets the same 15 questions. Afterwards you can share your result with a link, so someone else can play the same round. If you play the daily quiz more than once on a day, your first score stays, because after that you already know the answers.

What your result does and does not say

Your result is a count: this many out of 15 right. It depends a lot on the questions you got today, and it does not measure how clever you are. If you want to stick with one topic, the geography quiz has 60 questions on countries and capitals.

More games

The brain games page lists our games with a score, and the spelling test gives you a round of words to spell. The same quiz exists in Dutch on algemene kennis quiz.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are in the general knowledge quiz?
The set has 100 questions, 20 per topic. A round has 15 questions: three each on geography, history, science, language and numbers.
What is the daily quiz?
Every day everyone gets the same 15 questions in the same order. The questions change at midnight, Dutch time. That means you can compare your score with a friend or a colleague.
Where do the answers come from?
Every question links to the Wikipedia page where you can find the answer. A script checks whether the quoted text is still on that page.
What is a good score?
We do not say, because we do not compare results with other players. You see how many questions you got right and which ones you missed, with the right answer next to them.
Do I need an account?
No. The quiz runs in your browser and your answers do not go to our server. Only your daily quiz score stays on your own device, until the next day.
