What Skillido is
Skillido is a website with short games and tests; most games last 45 seconds. It is made by Next Day Online B.V., a company registered in the Netherlands (Wilpsedijk 2b, 7384 CC Wilp, Chamber of Commerce number 08198136). Contact: hallo@skillido.com.
The site started in Dutch, at https://skillido.com/nl. The English pages at https://skillido.com/en offer the free Brain Check, the Personality Check, a reading speed test, a vocabulary test and five games you can play on their own.
What the Brain Check measures
The Brain Check is a free test of five games, each lasting 45 seconds. With instructions it takes about five minutes and needs no account. The games are:
- Memory Grid. Some squares light up. Then tap them in the same order. Get it right and one more square is added.
- Quick Tap. Tap the green dot with a check mark as fast as you can. Leave the blue squares with a cross alone.
- Pattern Sequence. You see a row of shapes that follows a pattern. Choose the shape that comes next. Get as many right as you can.
- Spot the Difference. You see two rows of five shapes. They match except in one place. Tap that place. Find as many as you can.
- Math Sprint. Solve the sums. Each right answer makes the next one a little harder. Get as many right as you can.
Each game gives a game score from 0 to 100. The Brain Check score is the average of the five game scores, rounded to one decimal. A score describes how someone played these games in that round. It is not a measurement of a personal trait.
A comparison with other players (a percentile) appears only once 50 Brain Checks have been completed. Players can give an age group, which is optional. If at least 50 players in that age group have completed the Brain Check, the comparison is within the age group; otherwise it is with all players. The comparison only includes English Brain Checks, and our own test sessions are left out. Until the threshold is reached, the result page says that the player is one of the first and shows no percentile.
How a game score is calculated
Every game produces a raw result, such as the longest sequence of squares or a reaction time in milliseconds. A fixed curve per game turns that raw result into a score from 0 to 100. The curve is defined by anchor points. Between two anchors the score is linear, a result below the lowest anchor gets that anchor's score, and a result above the highest anchor gets 100.
A score of 50 is the anchor we set for an average result. We chose the anchors before anyone had played, based on what seemed within reach in 45 seconds. They are our own assumption and not derived from player data. Each game always runs in the same standard mode, so a score from one day can be compared with a score from another. The single-game pages and the Brain Check use the same curves.
Three details for Quick Tap: the raw result is the median time of all taps on the dot, taps faster than 150 milliseconds do not count, and tapping squares adds a penalty of up to half a second.
| Game (raw result) | Score 5 | Score 20 | Score 50 | Score 80 | Score 95 | Score 100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Memory Grid (longest correct sequence, in squares) | 2 | 3 | 5 | 7 | 9 | 11 |
| Quick Tap (median reaction time in milliseconds (lower is better)) | 900 | 700 | 520 | 400 | 330 | 280 |
| Pattern Sequence (puzzles right) | 1 | 2 | 4 | 7 | 10 | 13 |
| Spot the Difference (differences found) | 1 | 3 | 6 | 10 | 14 | 18 |
| Math Sprint (sums right) | 3 | 5 | 9 | 14 | 19 | 24 |
We show typical scores once enough people have played. Until then we publish no average and no comparison figure.
What it is not
- It is not a medical test and gives no medical advice.
- It is not an IQ test, and its scores cannot be converted to an IQ.
- It makes no statement about anyone's health, memory or abilities outside these games.
- A higher score on a second round usually reflects getting used to the game.
